Dallas-based scientist Thomas Hitchcock is at the forefront of Crown Laboratories’ latest innovation, BIOJUVE, which optimizes skin health using a common skin microbe. After participating in a clinical trial, one local woman described the product as something she “needs in her life.”

Hitchcock’s groundbreaking work in harnessing the skin microbiome has not only established a new category of skin therapeutics but also solidified his reputation as a leader in the field.

Redefining Skincare Science

In today’s skincare market, terms like “probiotic-rich,” “microbial-derived,” and “dermatologist recommended” are ubiquitous. However, Crown Laboratories’ chief scientist, Thomas Hitchcock, believes that these terms often lose their meaning when overused.

Hitchcock, a PhD geneticist and Chief Science Officer at Crown Laboratories, has an extensive background in aesthetic medicine, dermatology, and microbiology. He holds multiple patents and has transformed his early research on DNA damage and repair into a deep exploration of the skin biome. This journey led to the creation of BIOJUVE, a product that Crown Laboratories acquired and launched in January 2023.

The Science Behind BIOJUVE

BIOJUVE is the culmination of years of research into C.acnes, a skin microbe that exists universally across all humans. According to Hitchcock, while everyone has this microbe, the specific strain varies, which leads to different skin outcomes.

However, despite the science behind it, getting BIOJUVE into the hands of those who need it has been challenging. Laura Goodwin, a Dallas resident, discovered the product during a clinical study. She noted improvements in her skin’s redness and deep lines on her forehead, expressing a desire to age gracefully but effectively.

Goodwin’s skincare routine with BIOJUVE is straightforward: a cream cleanser, a serum, and a moisturizer. Although she initially tried to find a similar product post-study, she found that nothing matched BIOJUVE’s results.

A Commitment to Integrity

Hitchcock warns that inadequately studied skincare solutions can often cause more harm than good. He compares this to historical missteps, such as the use of x-rays to treat acne in the 1960s, which later led to cancer.

To prevent similar outcomes, Hitchcock and Crown Laboratories are committed to maintaining the integrity of BIOJUVE. They refuse to rely on marketing gimmicks, focusing instead on the product’s proven effectiveness.

Hitchcock praises Crown Laboratories for their willingness to invest millions in the proper manufacturing facilities needed to scale up the production of BIOJUVE, ensuring its integrity and efficacy.

The Future of Skincare

BIOJUVE is currently available only through physicians, and Dr. Hitchcock encourages those interested to consult their dermatologist. For more insights into the science behind the product, Crown Laboratories offers a YouTube series called Beauty & the Bacteria, and Hitchcock has authored a book titled Rebooting the Biome.
